83-year-old seer from Rishikesh donated Rs 1 crore for Ram Mandir

New Delhi: 83-year-old saint Swami Shankar Das, who lives in a cave located on the Rishikesh Neelkanth paidal marg, has contributed Rs 1 crore for the construction of the grand Shree Ram temple in Ayodhya. Swami Shankar Das Maharaj is also known by the name of Tat Baba. Swami Shankar Das had raised this amount from the offerings of devotees found in the cave of Baba with his Guru Tat. Swami Shankar Das has been living in the cave for the past 60 years.

When Swami Shankar Das reached the main branch of the State Bank of India in Rishikesh with a check of one crore rupees on Wednesday, the employees there were stunned. The bank employees checked the account of Sant Swami Shankar Das and found that his checks were correct. Union officials were called to the bank to complete the donation process. On Wednesday, Swami Shankar Das Maharaj handed over a check of one crore rupees to RSS District Director Sudama Singhal. While handing over the check, Swami Shankar Das said that he had deposited this fund only for the Shri Ram temple.

The life of Shankar Das Maharaj is very simple. He has spent 60 years of his life in a cave. His guru was the Tat, who was a contemporary of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Vishwa Guru Maharaj, and Mastram Baba. Mahamandaleshwar Swami Vijayananda Saraswati of Ved Niketan said that Baba Swami Shankar Das Maharaj, who had only one sack, had abandoned all comforts. He has been raising money for the Shree Ram temple for the last 40 years.
