Guwahati: In a road accident on Sunday, a truck loaded with weapons lost control and crashed. According to the information, the truck, which was carrying guns, magazines, ammunition and bullet proof jackets of battalion personnel from Dhakuwakhana in Dhemaji, Assam, was coming towards the headquarters at Likabali, lost control and crashed after breaking a bridge. Two people including the constable and others aboard were injured.

In a similar criminal incident, a cattle-laden vehicle crashed. According to information received, the Assam Police fired bullets into the tire of a cattle-laden vehicle in the state's Dhubri district and arrested two people. Police sources said that they have received an information that the police chased a vehicle which was allegedly illegally transporting cattle, singled out to stop it. "The driver of the vehicle ignored the police warning and tried to flee from the spot.

The police chased the vehicle for over 20 kms from Golakganj towards Dhubri town via Gauripur and with options exhausted, the police opened fire, puncturing the tyres of the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle laden with cattle lost control of the van, following which it fell into the river, police said. Police said two persons were arrested, identified as Rofikul Hussain (driver) and Abdul Latif, and rescued eight cattle from the vehicle.
