Muscat: A video of a woman wearing a burqa vandalizing statues of Ganesh on a floor in a supermarket in Bahrain is going viral on social media. As the dispute escalated, local authorities initiated legal action against the woman and referred her for public prosecution. In the viral video, the two women can be seen arguing with a supermarket worker in Jaffair and objecting to the idols of the Hindu god Ganpati placed on display ahead of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival.

Meanwhile, a woman picks up the idols of Shri Ganesh and throws it on the floor one by one. When she smashes the idols, the woman says bluntly, "This is the country of Mohammed bin Isa, do you think it has approved for this? This is a Muslim country, right?" Another woman shouts "Call the police and let's see who will worship these idols." According to the news, the incident took place at a supermarket in the Jaffair area, an area in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.

After the video went viral on the internet, the Bahrain government confirmed that legal action had been initiated against the 54-year-old woman for damage to property and defaming a sect and its rituals. Bahrain's Interior Ministry tweeted, "the capital police has initiated legal action against a 54-year-old woman for damaging a shop in Jaffair and insulting a sect and its rituals."
