New Delhi: Veteran Bihar leader and JDU Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Prasad is caught in a controversy. Mahendra Prasad is popularly known as 'Raja Mahendra' in political corridors. He has been an MP seven times. A woman has reached the Supreme Court against him. The woman claims herself to be the legally married wife of Mahendra Prasad.

The woman has challenged an order of the Delhi High Court in the apex court which ordered the duo to remain separated for four weeks. However, the Supreme Court has refused to interfere with the High Court order. Yesterday i.e. on Tuesday, a bench headed by Justice R Bhanumati heard this petition on Tuesday.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, appearing on behalf of the woman, said that the petitioner has been living with Mahendra Prasad for the past 45 years. Rohatgi said that despite expressing desire by the MP to stay with the woman, the High Court has followed a completely illegal process in this case. Rohatgi claimed that the woman is the legal wife of Mahendra Prasad and questioned why the husband and wife should live separately? There is democracy in the country. He has also questioned the investigation in it, describing it as a "unique case".

He said the High Court should not have passed such order as it was hearing a habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Prasad's son. Although the apex court bench on Rohatgi's argument stated, the petitioners may have been living together as husband and wife for a long time, but that does not mean that they are husband and wife. The bench has ordered the woman to plead again with the High Court, refusing to intervene in the matter at present. Let me tell you that 79-year-old Mahendra Prasad is one of the richest MPs in the country, who has many pharma companies and other businesses.
