The Kalkaji constituency proved to be an intense high stake battle for both BJP and AAP, represented by Ramesh Bidhuri and Aatishi Marlena respectively. Since morning, Aatishi was trailing behind even with a margin of 3000+ votes. But the final results have declared Aatishi victorious in the neck to neck fight among the two parties as well as the contenders.

Until sixth round, BJP’s Bidhuri was leading with 3,231 votes. But Aatishi narrowed the gap within some time, until noon declared victorious. Apart from Bidhuri, another big name was of Congress’s Alka Lamba. It felt like the results in Kalkaji will go in favor of BJP, however Aatishi won.

Apart from all the big guns, Aatishi is the only one who didn’t prove to be a disappointment for AAP. Aatishi won the Kalkaji seat in 2020 Legislative Assembly elections too. In 2015, AAP candidate Avatar Singh won the seat. This is a comeback for Aatishi Marlena who had last won with 52% vote backing from the people.

Slowly, by noon Aatishi secured a lead of 989 votes, keeping hopes of AAP alive. Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodiya have lost the battle already. Arvind Kejriwal had never lost in the New Delhi constituency, however this time he couldn’t hold to power. BJP candidate, Pravesh Verma a strong contender for Delhi CM post, defeated Arvind Kejriwal.

The Kalkaji seat is one of the most prominent ones, a closely contested seat in the 2025 Assembly elections. BJP has never won the seat since 1993, and has lost here once again. But the Central Government has ensured returning to power after 27 long years, with a historic lead in 48 seats.

And despite the current CM Aatishi’s win, the AAP is restricted to only 23 seats, not even inching close to the majority mark. Rather falling short of even securing 30 seats. In the meanwhile, celebrations have already begun by BJP. Pravesh Verma has also met Union Minister Amit Shah, and is currently in a celebratory fervor.
