NEW DELHI:  Workers from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to the streets of New Delhi on Saturday to protest the Delhi government's new excise policy.

Protesters from the BJP also gathered outside the home of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Workers protested the Delhi government and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in large numbers, waving placards and party flags.

To avert any unexpected incident, police and paramilitary forces were heavily deployed. The police had set up barricades on the route to prevent demonstrators from approaching Sisodia's home. 

However, as the BJP workers stormed across the barricades and attempted to pass them, they were apprehended by police. "The Delhi government should immediately fire Manish Sisodia since he colluded with the liquor mafia to impose this new corrupt liquor policy," one of the leaders who was being detained said.

On Friday, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena urged a CBI investigation after the Chief Secretary's recent report found infractions of the Delhi Excise Act 2009.  He claimed that Sisodia was giving unfair advantages to liquor licensees. It is also claimed that AAP utilised this money during the Punjab elections.
In response to the CBI investigation, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that Kejriwal's "increasing reputation across the country, including in panchayat elections, has threatened the Centre." "We'd been saying, particularly after the Punjab victory, that the BJP's national government is terrified of us. Several inquiries would be launched in the coming days, "He said.

Kejriwal also defended his Deputy Chief Minister, claiming that the BJP is afraid of the party's growth in the country.
