Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti expressed skepticism about forming an alliance with Congress for the Haryana assembly elections on Saturday. Bharti highlighted the need for AAP to assess the effectiveness of its previous alliance with Congress during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Delhi. He emphasized that AAP should consider contesting all 90 seats in the Haryana assembly elections independently.

In a statement on X, Bharti criticized the previous alliance, noting that despite AAP's support for Congress candidates in Delhi—through roadshows and campaigning by senior AAP leaders—AAP candidates received no support from Congress. He mentioned that Congress Delhi and local leaders did not support AAP candidates, and several Congress leaders defected to BJP during the campaign. Bharti also pointed out the lack of support from key Congress figures like Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi.

Bharti argued that the current political climate in Haryana, where the BJP is struggling and Congress is experiencing internal conflict, presents an opportunity for AAP to contest all seats without an alliance. He urged AAP to leverage this situation to establish a non-BJP, non-Congress government in Haryana. Bharti also recalled the "imaginary sharab ghotala," which he claimed was used by Congress to undermine AAP leaders.

The Haryana assembly elections will take place on October 5, with the last date for filing nominations set for September 12 and vote counting scheduled for October 8.
