NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday, August 3, decided to extend its full support to the joint opposition candidate Margaret Alva for Vice President. The decision was taken in the meeting of AAP’s party's Political Affairs Committee.
"Arvind Kejriwal, the Delhi Chief Minister and national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party, presided over a meeting of the Political Affairs Committee. It was discussed in detail who will the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) support in the election of the Vice President.
We will support Margaret Alva, the rival candidate, in the election for vice president, Arvind Kejriwal and the PAC members have unanimously decided. Our entire Rajya Sabha delegation will support them on June 6th "Sanjay Singh, a party member, declared after the meeting.
Notably, in the race for presidential poll, the Aam Aadmi Party had also supported Yashwant Sinha, a joint opposition candidate.
Margaret Alva filed her nomination for the Vice Presidential election on July 19. The decision to field her was taken at a meeting of opposition leaders of 17 parties. Alva will fight NDA's candidate and former West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar in the Vice President election which will be held on August 6.
