New Delhi: Raghav Chadha, a prominent leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), alleged on Wednesday, that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government at the Center has devised a "scheme" aimed at arresting key leaders of the India Alliance, with the first target being Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Chadha contended that the formation of the India Alliance had instilled fear among BJP leaders regarding their prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Consequently, the ruling BJP had hatched a strategy to embroil top leaders of the India Alliance in legal troubles, potentially leading to their incarceration.
"The incarceration of these top leaders would essentially render them unable to contest elections and manage their respective political parties. With the leaders of the India Alliance behind bars, the BJP could effectively campaign and potentially secure victory in the elections," Chadha asserted during a press conference in New Delhi.
"Our sources suggest the existence of a comprehensive plan, and the initial arrest under this scheme is anticipated to be that of Arvind Kejriwal, orchestrated by agencies aligned with the BJP," he added.
Chadha further asserted that the BJP had historically capitalized on the division of opposition votes to secure electoral wins, and the emergence of the India Alliance had disrupted this scenario.
The AAP leader also accused the Narendra Modi government of actively seeking Kejriwal's arrest with the aim of securing all seven Lok Sabha seats in the forthcoming 2024 general election.
In a related development, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had summoned Arvind Kejriwal for questioning in connection with an ongoing probe into the Delhi excise policy case, scheduled for November 2.
It is worth noting that Kejriwal had previously been summoned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in April of the same year in connection with the case. However, it's essential to highlight that Kejriwal was not named as an accused in the initial First Information Report (FIR) filed by the CBI on August 17 the previous year.
In another legal development, the Rouse Avenue Court extended the judicial custody of Aam Aadmi Party leader and Member of Parliament, Sanjay Singh, until November 10 next month. This extension is connected to his involvement in an alleged liquor scam case for which he was recently arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
