New Delhi: In an amusing incident during Friday's session in the Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge's slip of the tongue sparked laughter among government members and surprisingly led to a moment of agreement between the opposition and the ruling party.

Addressing the issue of women's representation,  Kharge inadvertently provided comedic relief when discussing the government's majority in the Lok Sabha. He remarked, "You have such a majority, first it was 330, 334, now it's '400 plus'."

While Kharge likely meant to refer to the BJP's aspiration of securing over 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, his mix-up elicited chuckles from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, and others on the government benches, as well as Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar.

In the midst of the laughter, Kharge attempted to clarify his statement, only for Mr. Goyal to interject, saying, "Today, Kharge ji has finally spoken the truth and nothing but the truth."
Sharing a clip of the speech on social media, the BJP also mocked the Congress President. The caption accompanying the video read, "PM Modi be like, 'I need new haters, the old ones have become my fans...'"
In response to Mr. Goyal's remark,  Dhankhar commented, "I believe a leader of the opposition has never received such applause, it's unprecedented. Your ( Kharge's) speech is receiving acclaim."
The Congress leader countered, "I understand why it's being praised. They (the BJP) are boasting, claiming they'll secure 400 or 500 seats... They won't even surpass 100 seats. INDIA is strong."
