Srinagar: A person of Kashmir origin has been declared a terrorist by the government on Wednesday (January 4). The dreaded terrorist has links with Al-Qaeda and is in touch with other global terrorist groups and is involved in relaunching the Islamic State (IS) in India. Ejaz Ahmed Ahangar alias Abu Usman al-Kashmiri is currently based in Afghanistan and is one of the key recruiters of the Islamic State Jammu Kashmir (ISJK).

The Union Home Ministry declared through a notification that Ejaz Ahmed Ahangar alias Abu Usman al-Kashmiri has been declared a terrorist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967. Born in Srinagar in 1974, Ahangar is a wanted terrorist in Jammu and Kashmir for more than two decades and has started plotting terror-related strategies in Jammu and Kashmir by creating a medium of coordination between various terrorist organizations. The Home Ministry said Ahangar is working to promote terrorism in Kashmir and has started an exercise to identify people to be inducted into its Kashmir-based network.

Ejaz Ahmed Ahangar alias Abu Usman al-Kashmiri was appointed as the head of the Islamic State (IS) recruitment cell for India and was instrumental in launching an online India-centric ISIS propaganda magazine. According to the notification, Ejaz Ahmed Ahangar was last released from jail in Kashmir in 1996 and has been missing since then.
