Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee is celebrating her birthday today. Mamata was born on January 5, 1955, in a lower-middle-class family of Kolkata. Mamata Banerjee's father was a freedom fighter. He died due to a lack of medicines. At the age of just 17, Mamata lost her father. The responsibility of the family came on Mamata's shoulders. She raised her siblings by selling milk. Started politics from college:-

According to the information received, Mamata Banerjee stepped into politics in the 70s through the Congress party in college. Very soon, her stature in the Congress increased and the party elected her as the General Secretary of the Mahila Congress. In the 1984 general elections, Mamata became India's youngest MP. She won this election by defeating Somnath Chatterjee from the Jadavpur seat. In 1996, 1999, 2004, and 2009, Mamata Banerjee won the Lok Sabha election from the Kolkata seat. In 1991, Banerjee took charge as minister of state for human resource development, youth affairs, sports, and women and child development in the Rao government.  

Left Congress and formed her own party:-

In 1993, Mamata Banerjee also resigned from the Sports Ministry. In 1996, she accused Congress of being a puppet of the CPI(M) in West Bengal. In 1997, she also formed the All India Trinamool Congress Party. Not only this, in the year 2011, the CPI(M) and left parties, which have been ruling continuously for 34 years, were ousted. In 1999, she became part of the NDA and became the Railway Minister. Mamata parted ways with the NDA in 2011.  

Where Mamata Banerjee has fought many battles in her life. Compared to other CMs, she likes to live a simple life. Mamata Banerjee still lives in her ancestral house in Kolkata. Despite being CM, she is seen wearing simple slippers and a white saree.
