Big digital companies like Google and Facebook have started updating their portals with the aim of making public information including appointment of complaint officers as per India's new social media rules. According to official sources, big social media companies like Google, Facebook and WhatsApp have shared details with the Information Technology (IT) ministry as per the new digital rules. Twitter, however, is still not complying with the rules. Under the new rules, major social media intermediaries need to appoint grievance redressal officers, nodal officers and chief operating officers.

The category of leading social media intermediaries covers social media platforms with a user strength of more than 50 lakh. Industry sources said Facebook and WhatsApp have already shared the compliance report with the Ministry of Electronics and IT.
