New Delhi: Former Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam has criticized Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for his recent comments regarding the Sikh community and reservations in India during his visit to the United States. Krishnam demanded an apology, claiming Gandhi "insulted the country on foreign land."

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Krishnam accused Gandhi of being dishonest, stating, "Rahul Gandhi tells a lot of lies—he lies to the people of the country, to his party members, to women, and to farmers too. He even lies to the depressed and impoverished classes." He emphasized that Gandhi, as the Leader of Opposition, represents the entire country and should refrain from making disparaging remarks abroad. "He is the only politician who goes out of the country and insults the nation," Krishnam added, urging Gandhi to apologize to the country.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has also criticized Gandhi for his statements made during his US trip. BJP MP Anurag Thakur accused Gandhi of supporting "anti-Indians," asserting that he has set new records for dishonesty. Thakur stated, "Whenever he travels abroad, he disrespects and insults India, making one lie after another."

BJP IT cell head Amit Malviya alleged that Gandhi's overseas engagements harm India's image. "Every time Rahul Gandhi goes abroad, he engages in divisive anti-India politics," Malviya claimed.

In response, Gandhi defended his remarks about Sikhs and other segments of Indian society, arguing that the BJP is resorting to lies in a desperate attempt to silence him. He asked, "Is there anything wrong with what I have said? Shouldn't India be a country where every Sikh—and every Indian—can freely practice their religion without fear?"

Gandhi concluded, "The BJP is desperate to silence me because they cannot stand the truth. I will always speak up for the values that define India: our unity in diversity, equality, and love."
