Guwahati: Tremendous action has started against child marriage in Assam. There has been a stir in the entire state about this. The police are engaged in arresting those who have done child marriage. This action is being taken on the orders of the state's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Under this campaign, 4,074 cases were registered across Assam. At the same time, a total of 2,044 people including 57 Qazis and priests have also been arrested.
Assam Director General of Police (DGP) GP Singh has informed that on the instructions of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, a campaign was launched across the state against husbands who have done child marriage. In these operations, 2,044 people have been caught, while cases have been registered against 4,074 people. Newly-appointed DGP Singh said that girls in the age group of 12-13 years are also included in this figure, who become pregnant prematurely and induce medical problems.
He said that on this we had also contacted the CID and a strategy was prepared to initiate action against such incidents and punish the culprits, under which we registered 4,074 cases against child marriage in the last two days across the state. On the basis of the registered cases, we started arresting, under which 2,044 people have been arrested so far. At present, further legal process will be started and they will be produced in court.
