Two years after her brief cameo in Aghori, Nidhi Uttam, best known for her role as Nandini in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, is back on television. Doosri Maa will feature the actress. I am essentially the doosri maa's pehli maa, she says. I'll take the role of a young actor's mother. A lot of flashbacks will occur. The plot revolves around my persona. I will be the one who makes doosri maa happen. It is a lovely tale that takes place in Uttar Pradesh. The fact that I am from Kanpur and am familiar with the local dialect and culture made everything work out perfectly for me (UP). I can therefore appreciate the character's subtleties. I have an upper hand in terms of culture and language.”

The actress has no problem acting as a mother, but only to young performers. She says, "It was a different experience playing a mother in YRKKH. I play Mala, a young single mother who dies in the movie Doosri Maa. The child's missing his first mother and how he comes to like the second mother are then the story's main themes. Although I haven't felt nervous about playing a mother, sister, or wife, the age of my character and the age of the on-screen child do influence my decision to join a show. If the child in the story is developing naturally, I would be okay, but I wouldn't feel at ease playing the mother to grown actors.

She believes that because she took on different roles after a successful run on Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, she avoided being typecast as a sister. "First, I won't limit Nandini to just being the sister of the male lead," she begins. Equal weight was given to the protagonist and my character. As Nandini, I was pleased with the material I got to perform and the positive feedback I got from the audience. I'm grateful to the stars that I got to play that role because it made me happy. Due to the abundance of characters who were focused on performance, I avoided being typecast for the part. I've been producing quality work. Based on the range of tasks I get to perform; I choose my characters.

Nidhi now plans to balance OTT, TV, and movies. "I was active on TV for a very long time, up until 2020, at which point I was selected for a few movies. I was therefore focusing more on movies and OTT. But now that I'm back on TV, I'm also juggling my career in movies, OTT, and commercials," she concludes.
