South Diva Samantha Ruth recently took to the social media and shares the news that she is diagnosed with a  rare disease ‘Myositis’. Her announcement left eyeryone in shock. As myositis is a rare disease people are not aware about this disease. Here are few things you should know about the rare disease and about its early detection.

Myositis is the name for a group of rare conditions which lead to weak, painful and aching muscles. Also, this condition gets worse with time. There are generally three types of myositis: Polymyositis, dermatomyositis and inclusion body myositis (IBM).

Muscle weakness is the main symptom of myositis. While some patients may experience muscle pain, others may not. Other symptoms of this condition include aching muscles, constant tiredness, difficulty in sitting, discomfort in swallowing and depression. If you have severe myositis, you may develop breathing and swallowing problems. Speech and language therapy may be recommended if you're having problems swallowing or it's affecting your ability to communicate. Here are symptoms of Myositis for early detection.

  • Muscle weakness
  • Painful or aching muscles and feeling very tired
  • Problem in sit up, or stand after a fall
  • Swallowing or difficult it hard to hold your head up
  • Feeling unhappy or depressed

It can help reduce swelling, give you more energy, and build up or restore your muscle strength. Exercise and physiotherapy are particularly important if you have inclusion body myositis  as these are the only treatments for this type of myositis.  As according to some studies it cannot be treated with medicine.

Physical Therapy: Therapies are often recommended by physicians treating myositis. If you have a prescription for therapy sessions, take advantage of them. They provide personalized therapy that can make a major difference in how well you can function and take care of yourself. Do not skip physical Therapy and tried to practice it at your home.

Heat therapy: You might get shocked by hearing this. It can mean a wide range of treatments that focus on heating the muscles in a variety of ways. In many cases, physical therapists may recommend heat therapy after you do your exercises or when you feel tired or sore. Heat therapy is believed to relieve pain and relax muscles. It may also improve blood flow and ease swelling. It is one of the effective ways to deal with Myositis.

Proper Diet:  This rare disease need a balanced diet just like anyone else. The stakes are higher when your nutrition can directly impact symptoms and disease progression. People with myositis may benefit from some of these dietary tips recommended by physicians and clinical nutritionists. Add Grains, Vegetables, beans, Fish and fat in your diet. As unbalanced diet affect your body very badly.
