NEW DELHI: The opposition today, February 2, alleged that the proceedings of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned to stop them from raising the Adani issue.

Jairam Ramesh, general secretary of the Congress said, "Both Houses of Parliament adjourned today until 2 pm as Govt did not agree to combined Opposition demand for an investigation into forced investments by LIC, SBI, and other public institutions that have lost enormous value in recent days endangering savings of crores of Indians." Both Houses' proceedings were suspended until Thursday at 2 p.m.

Sloganeering resulted after Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar rejected the suspension notices of nine members, including the leader of the opposition, Mallikarjun Kharge.

The Chairman dismissed the notice with the remark, "The notices are not in order to be accepted," and cited the decision from December 8 regarding the acceptance and rejection of rule 267 notices, which is used to halt business.
Members later objected to the decision, and RS Chairman Dhankhar called an adjournment of the House till 2 p.m.

Leaders of various like-minded opposition parties gathered in the leader of the opposition's chamber before to the House proceedings. In addition to Congress, they also included the DMK, AITC, SP, JD(U), Shiv Sena, CPI(M), CPI, NCP, IUML, NC, AAP, and Kerala Congress.

The government is likely to introduce a resolution of appreciation for President Droupadi Murmu's remarks during the joint session of Parliament.
