Adipurush, directed by Om Raut, has grossed Rs 140 crore worldwide. In India, the film, a retelling of the Ramayana, grossed 37.25 crore. It was released in theatres on Friday to mixed reviews and widespread criticism. Prabhas plays Raghav, Kriti Sanon plays Janaki, and Saif Ali Khan plays Lankesh in the film. T-Series' Bhushan Kumar produced it.
T-Series published a poster displaying the box office results on Instagram on Saturday. It was inscribed with the words 'divine victory, 140 cr (gross box office collection) global box office day one globally'. The caption read, "Humbled with your love. A triumph for #Adipurush at the Global Box Office!"
According to the reports, Adipurush joins Hrithik Roshan's War, Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's Brahmastra, and Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan in earning the "coveted position of the highest pan-India opener for any Hindi film released in other languages." Adipurush is now available in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the numbers of the film. Taking to Twitter, Taran wrote on Saturday, he wrote, “A massive start was on the cards due to the hype and the *advance bookings* were an indicator of the fact… As expected, #Adipurush has embarked on a fantastic start on Day 1… Fri ₹ 37.25 cr. #India biz. Nett BOC. NOTE: #Hindi version. #Boxoffice. #Adipurush at *national chains*… Day 1…#PVR: 6.75 cr, #INOX: 5.60 cr, #Cinepolis: 3.10 cr, Total: 15.45 cr.”
Adipurush joined other animated, small-screen, and big-screen retellings of the mythological epic throughout the ages. Sampoorna Ramayana was released in 1961, whereas Ram Rajya was released in 1943. Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan (1987 TV series) is still a popular favourite. Ramayan-related projects include Ramaya: The Legend of Prince Rama (1992), Lav Kush (1997), and Ramayan (2008 TV programme).
