Adipurush finished its first week by continuing its downward trajectory, although on the positive side, the drop was less than 30% this time. The Prabhas-starrer earned approximately Rs. 7 crores on Thursday, taking its total first-week earnings in India to Rs. 269 crores.
The first week total isn't horrible in and of itself, but the trend is. Indeed, it may turn out to be the worst box office trend for a major film in the Hindi belt. Due to the lack of major competition in the second week, the picture may be able to keep a significant number of screenings and maybe collect some additional funds. However, if there had been a significant release this week, Adipurush would have been quickly replaced and forced to end its theatrical run in most theatres in just one week.
The Telugu version of the film performed considerably better, which could be owing to Prabhas' star power driving the collection, whilst the Ramayana factor was a stronger driver in the Hindi belt. The film's appeal in the region was essentially lost due to religious criticism over its representation of Ramayana. Adipurush's trend in Telugu states is similar to Saaho, another film starring Prabhas that earned mixed reviews. The final three weekday collections in Telugu states mirrored those of Saaho, however Adipurush simply crashed across the Hindi belt, with Thursday being 30% of Saaho. Adipurush earned an additional Rs. 46 crores overseas in its first week, bringing its total worldwide profit to Rs. 315 crores.
