Kabul: Information about the death of eight civilians, including a child, has come to light in Afghanistan by targeting Taliban militants. This information was given by the government official on Saturday. Be aware that talks are on for peace between the US and the Taliban. The airstrike was carried out in the eastern province of Nangarhar on Friday.
Provincial Governor spokesperson Ataullah Khoganyai has told the local media that "unfortunately eight civilians, including a child, were killed in a campaign against the Taliban." Provincial Council member Ajmal Omar has said that the citizens were returning after refusing a picnic, when they came under attack. The security officer of Nangarhar has also told that nine Taliban fighters have also been killed in the army's operation.
However, the Taliban claimed on social media that 11 civilians were killed in the attack by security forces. A senior State Department official in Washington has said that the US and the Taliban have agreed to reduce violence for seven days as a possible peace deal. Hours after this statement, the civilian casualties have been confirmed.
