Dehradun: Around 75 pet pigs have lost their lives due to the impact of African swine fever in the Kotdwar area. The pigs found dead in Paniyali Gadere of Amapadav have been buried by the municipal administration by digging a pit with a JCB. The Animal Husbandry Department and the Municipal Corporation urged the pig farmers to suppress the pigs suffering from swine fever in the pit. He said throwing them in the open can spread the disease to other animals as well.
The municipal corporation gave instructions to keep the pigs in its enclosure. Cattle herders have reared pigs at many places in Bhabar including Mangopadav, Kaudiya, and Jhulabasti under the Nagar area. In the last 4-5 days, the animal husbandry department has received the news of the death of 75 pigs in the area due to this infectious disease.
The same veterinary officer Dr BM Gupta confirmed this. He said that in the survey conducted in many areas, including Mangopadav, the cattle herders have reported the death of 75 animals so far. There were reports of dead pigs lying in the Paniyali Gadere of Ampadav. Instructions have been given to pig keepers by conducting a spot inspection of the area. He urged the pig farmers to immediately report the animal to the veterinarian about the animal's illness. On Thursday, the municipality team with the help of JCB buried the dead pigs by digging a pit in Paniyali Gadere. Municipal Commissioner KS Negi said that instructions have been given to the poultry farmers to keep their pigs in the enclosure. A letter has been sent to the Animal Husbandry Department requesting it to inspect the affected areas. A few days ago, many pigs lost their lives in Rishikesh. In view of this, the municipal team had closed meat shops on railway road and the IDPL area.
