She was born on February 23, 1969 in Mumbai. She belongs to the Patwardhan Royal Marathi Family of Sangli. Bhagyashree started her acting career in 1987 with the TV serial Kachhi Dhoop. After this, she started her film career in the year 1989 with the film Maine Pyar Kiya. The film became a major hit. She became more famous than her costar Salman Khan. However Bhagyashree eloped and got married to boyfriend Himalaya Dasani against her family members and it destroyed her career.
In an interview, she revealed that she was in love with Himalaya since her school days. After some time Himalayas gone to America. And Bhagyashree started working in the film industry. The duo tied the knot in a temple against her parent's will. Their marriage was attended by the parents of Salman Khan, Sooraj Barjatya, and Himalaya Dasani’s parents. Bhagyashree has two children. Elder son Abhimanyu and Avantika.
