Legendary director Mani Ratnam has been trying to adapt Tamil historical novel Ponniyin Selvan to a movie for several years. The historical film will showcase the life of Chola Emperor Arulmozhi. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan confirmed her presence in Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus ‘Ponniyin Selvan’. The latest update is that the maverick filmmaker also approached Anushka Shetty to play a pivotal role. However, there is no official announcement on the same.

According to sources, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan are in talks with Anushka Shetty and her team. The Bhaagamathie actress is yet to confirm her inclusion in the film, but rumors suggest that she will most likely sign on the dotted line soon. Earlier, Nayanthara’s name hit the headlines for Ponniyin Selvan but there wasn’t any official confirmation from the actress’ side. 

The epic saga is currently in the pre-production stage and the shooting is likely to go on floors by the end of 2019. It is indeed that one film that moviegoers are eagerly looking forward to next year. Mani Ratnam is planning to commence the shoot in January 2020 and an official announcement is expected to be out soon. If all goes well, Jio Studios in association with Madras Talkies will be bankrolling the film.
