To curb corruption, a few years ago the Modi government decided to ban demonetization. The government had stated that the purpose of the demonetization was to return black money. But now the decision of demonetisation to curb corruption is challenging its purpose. After the decision, the game of fraud is taking place from the new notes brought in the market. In this, the biggest share is of 2 thousand notes. Most cases are from Gujarat. After this comes West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh. According to the data of the National Crime Record Bureau, since demonetization, 2 thousand notes have a 56% share in the case of counterfeit notes.
On 8 November 2016, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement of the closure of 5 hundred and thousand notes, the security aspects of the new notes were also claimed, but the NCRB figures are telling something else. According to this, in the year 2017-2018, fake notes worth a total of 46.06 crores were caught. In this, the share of 2 thousand notes increased to 53.3% in 2017 and 61.1% in 2018.
