New Delhi: Friendship on social media has become common and through this many times people fall in love and get married. But sometimes this type of online friendship proves to be very frightening. In such friendships, sometimes there are reports of cheating and sometimes murder and rape. The recent case is also similar. A 16-year-old class 11 girl was raped by her 'Instagram friend' in a hotel in Gurugram, adjacent to Delhi. Police gave this news on Wednesday.

The same case came to light when the culprit sent nude pictures of the girl to her mother and also posted them on social media. According to the complaint filed by the victim's mother, her daughter had befriended a man from UP on Instagram last year and also made nude video calls after friendship. The mother told the police that the perpetrator then called her daughter to a hotel in Gurugram and raped her there.

The victim's mother said, "He again called her to the hotel twice last week. He was pressurizing my daughter to meet him by threatening to share her obscene videos and photos online." According to the police, she said in her complaint, "On Tuesday, he posted an obscene photo of my daughter on social media and also sent it to me. When I asked my daughter, she told me about the whole incident." Following the complaint, the victim's mother lodged an FIR against the perpetrator Raj Dwivedi at Mahila Police Station under sections 8 (sexual harassment) and 12 (sexual harassment) of the POCSO Act, section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and section 67A of the IT Act. Inspector Poonam Singh, SHO of Mahila Police Station (West), said, "An FIR has been registered and we are conducting raids to nab the culprit. He is also said to be a student."
