Mumbai Indians (MI) defeated Chennai Super Kings by just one run in thrilling encounter to lift the Indian Premier League title for a record fourth time. It seemed as if CSK had the game in their hands when they needed just 17 runs in the last two overs with opener Shane Watson still on the crease. But the pacers Lasith Malinga and Jasprit Bumrah were in brilliant form and ensured that MI gets trophy for the fourth time.
The thrilling clash that was decided on a few errors which CSK committed. Chennai captain MS Dhoni also rued a few costly mistakes which led to his team failing to win the match. He said that MI won the IPL because they made one mistake less. Dhoni said, "It was quite a funny game, we were passing the trophy to each other. Both committed mistakes, and eventually the winning team was the one that committed one mistake less.”

The captain cool further added, "Our bowlers did really well. It was not a 150 wicket, but the bowlers kept us in the hunt. They kept getting wickets when it was really needed. Batting, someone kept chipping in and we kept winning.”

Talking about the match, CSK bowlers did a tremendous job to restrict MI on a modest total of 149/8 with Deepak Chahar (3/26) and Imran Tahir (2/23) producing two brilliant spells. In reply, CSK got off to a good start with Faf du Plessis taking on the bowlers in his usual flair. He scored quick 26 off 13 balls before being dismissed by Krunal Pandya. Shane Watson continued to pile on runs from one end but failed to find support from the other as CSK batsmen failed to turn up on the big night.
