Tiruvannamalai: From Jain community in Tiruvannamalai a woman saint is waiting for her death by refusing to take food and water. Villagers have gathered from near and far to seek her ‘blessings’. There is a Jain monastery in Vadamathimangalam, Tiruvannamalai district which comes under Polur taluk where is is currently located. A 72-year-old Jain saint ‘Mathaji’ reached this monastery some days ago and is supposedly waiting for her holy death, also called ‘Jeeva Samadhi’. As per religious beliefs, she will not get revived into the mortal world after this. She is expected to take the ‘Jeeva Samadhi’ in two days and many people around the area are visiting to get ‘blessings’ from her.

However Tirumalai Jain monastery’s superior saint Tavala Keerthi Swamigal said that her original name is Pavari Devi. She denounced her family and other worldly connections in 2010 and became a saint. Her name was changed as Sullika Sri Sukundanmadhi Mathaji and she visited many Jain temples around India in years since. She is a native from Rajasthan’s Sawai Madhopur.

She is being taken care of by over a dozen saints and she may get her holy death in a couple of days as per the statement of monastery superiors. In Jainism, Nigrantha means ‘Bondless’ from the family and from this world. Moksha means a liberation or salvation from samsara.
