Ujjain: Mahamandaleshwar Mandakani of Niranjani Akhara in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, attempted suicide by consuming poisonous pesticide after being accused of fraud. Mandakani was admitted to the district hospital in critical condition and is currently under treatment. The accusation against him involves allegedly taking Rs 7.5 lakh from Mahant Sureshwaranand Puri Maharaj in exchange for the title of Mahamandaleshwar of Panchayati Akhara. An FIR was filed against him, after which Mandakani attempted suicide. He accused three individuals of mental torture and conspiracy.

Mahamandaleshwar Mandakani Puri, also known as Mamta Joshi, was accused of fraud by Mahant Sureshwaranand Puri Maharaj, who lodged a complaint at the Chimanganj police station. The complaint stated that Mandakani promised to secure the title of Mahamandaleshwar in Shri Panchayati Niranjani Akhara in exchange for Rs 7.5 lakh. After an investigation, the police registered a case of fraud against Mandakani late on Monday night. Feeling distressed by the allegations, Mandakani attempted suicide by consuming pesticide.

Denying the allegations, Mandakani called them fabricated and stated that a conspiracy was being orchestrated against him. He mentioned that he was threatened and blackmailed by Sureshwaranand after he refused to grant him the title of Mahamandaleshwar. Mandakani claimed that he was pressured into returning the money he received, which he refused to do. The police have registered a case against Mandakani and one other individual based on the complaint filed by Mahant Sureshwaranand Puri Maharaj.
