Dehradun: On 16 February, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel are watching the watershed of the Rishiganga river after no immediate crisis arises from the lake built at 14,000 feet in the high Himalayan region of Uttarakhand. It has been learned that a few days ago it was confirmed from the satellite photos that a lake is being formed in the catchment area of the Rishiganga river. Immediately thereafter, a team of SDRF went to survey where they found that the water is draining from the lake into the river and there is no possibility of immediate danger.
According to the information received, the SDRF has deployed its troops to monitor the flow of the Rishiganga from the lake to Raini and Tapovan. Navneet Bhullar, commandant who led the SDRF team on the spot said, "Our soldiers are deployed along the river, which is constantly monitoring the river's water flow." Apart from this, sensors have also been installed at different places to monitor the water flow of the river under the early warning system.
NTPC's under construction 520 MW Tapovan-Vishnugad hydroelectric project was severely damaged by the severe floods in the Rishiganga river in Chamoli district on February 7, while the 13.2 MW Rishiganga hydroelectric project at Rani was completely destroyed.
