New Delhi: Amid the ongoing violent protests over the Agneepath scheme, the Union Home Ministry has taken a major decision. The ministry has decided to reserve 10 per cent seats for recruitment of Agniveers in para-military forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles. With this, agniveers will be given a relaxation of 3 years from the prescribed upper age limit for recruitment in para-military forces and Assam Rifles. At the same time, the age relaxation for the first batch of Agniveer will be for 5 years from the prescribed upper age limit.
It may be noted that the new 'Agneepath Scheme' announced to recruit in the Army is being opposed by the youth in many parts of the country. Student organisations protesting in Bihar against Agneepath have declared a 'state bandh' today. RJD's Bihar unit president Jagdanand Singh has announced his party's support for the 'Bihar bandh' call in the presence of leaders of the Left parties. "We are in support of students who are protesting on the streets against the Agneepath recruitment scheme.
