CHENNAI: All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has decided to hold its state conference in Madurai on Thursday, August 20 , the first one after Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) became the general secretary of the party. The decision was taken after a resolution was passed at the executive committee of the party held on Apiril 16 in Chennai.

This will also be the prime meeting of the AIADMK after Edappadi K Palaniswami became the general secretary of AIADMK, triumphing over the internal battle with O Panneerselvam .

Elaborating that M G Ramachandran, the founder of the party of AIADMK and former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had "charted history by holding mega conferences in places like Tirunelveli and Trichy"  but the Madurai conference will also mark a "turning point for AIADMK."

Detractors said that the AIADMK had suffered in Tamil Nadu's southern districts as a result of the removal of Panneerselvam, a southern Tamil native. AIADMK source said, they hope to refute this narrative by having a state convention in Madurai.

Another resolution approved by the executive committee made a passing allusion to OPS and his group. "The party under the leadership of EPS should teach a lesson to traitors who have a clandestine link with DMK," the resolution reads.

A few of the executive committee's adopted resolutions challenge the DMK and its state administration. Those resolutions claimed, among other things, that the DMK government had caused a breakdown in peace and order in Tamil Nadu, had filed fabricated charges against AIADMK members, had failed to fulfil electoral promises, and had violated state assembly traditions.

The State conference also urged the DMK administration to "impress upon the Centre to implement Cauvery-Godavari river link project and Nadanthai Vazhi Cauvery project."

In order to strengthen the party at the local level in preparation for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the AIADMK state conference also determined to immediately establish booth committees throughout the state.
