New Delhi: Abdul Kalam, acting president of the West Bengal unit of The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), along with several party workers a few months before the assembly elections in the state, took over the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday. After joining the Trinamool Congress, Kalam said at the party headquarters here that for many years there has been an atmosphere of peace in West Bengal and he has been the party's hand to keep away the atmosphere of xenophobia.

He told the press, "We have seen that West Bengal used to be a place of peace. But, for some time, there has been an atmosphere of xenophobia and it should be corrected. That is why I have decided to join the Trinamool Congress. AIMIM leader and his supporters joined the ruling party in the presence of senior Trinamool Congress leader and State Minister Chandrima Bhattacharya.

Kalam further said that AIMIM should have tried to enter West Bengal politics earlier and it would not be correct to try to come to politics at this time. It will unnecessarily vote, which is not the slightest need," he said. The state is going to have assembly elections this year.
