On Friday, Air India started booking for around 300 flights to various countries including the US and the UK under the third phase of the Vande Bharat Mission. A large number of passengers broke down on the Air India website as soon as the booking opened and there was a lot of demand for tickets. The national carrier received 60 million hits within two hours of opening the booking on its website.

Air India will operate about 300 flights to Europe, Australia, Canada, USA, UK and Africa from June 10 to July 1 during the third phase of the Vande Bharat mission. The national carrier tweeted at 8.20 pm on Friday, 'Bookings for the third phase of Mission Vande Bharat opened for America, Canada, UK and Europe etc. at 5 pm today. About six crore hits were received on our website till 7 pm and only 1700 seats were sold in two hours through the website. Booking is going on and tickets are being issued.'

Foreign Ministry spokesman Anurag Shrivastava had said that the first phase of the Vande Bharat Mission lasted from 7-16 May, in which 16,716 Indians were repatriated. The second phase started from 17 May which will run on 13 June. So far 45,216 Indians have been brought back. These include 8,069 migrant workers, 7,656 students and 5,107 professionals. A total of 3,08,200 in the embassies abroad have registered themselves for return to India. In the second phase, Air India has plans for 429 flights to 60 countries. There will be 311 international flights and 118 feeder flights.
