Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh has been appointed as the next Chief of the Air Staff, taking over the role of Air Chief Marshal starting September 30, 2024. He will succeed the current Chief, Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, who will retire on the same day.

Background of Air Marshal Amar Preet Singh

Air Marshal Singh's journey in the Indian Air Force began on December 21, 1984, when he was commissioned into the fighter stream. He is an alumnus of prestigious institutions such as the National Defence Academy, Defence Services Staff College, and the National Defence College.

Throughout his career, Singh has held numerous significant positions. He has served as Flight Commander and Commanding Officer of a MiG-27 squadron, as well as Air Officer Commanding at an air base. He has led the Central Air Command (CAC) and has also been a Senior Air Staff Officer at the Eastern Air Command.

A qualified Flying Instructor and Experimental Test Pilot, Singh has amassed over 4,900 flight hours on various fixed-wing and rotary-wing aircraft. His experience includes roles at the Aircraft and Systems Testing Establishment.

Notably, Singh managed the MiG-29 Upgrade Project in Moscow and served as Project Director for the Light Combat Aircraft Tejas at the National Flight Test Centre. He has also held the position of Air Defence Commander at the South Western Air Command.

In recognition of his exemplary service, Singh received the 'Ati Vishisht Seva Medal' from the President of India on Republic Day in 2019.
