Nedumbassery: In the Kochi-Dubai-Kochi sector, AirAsia India will launch its maiden international service. The airline, which previously only flew domestically, just got clearance to fly internationally.

The low-cost carrier has informed the authorities at Cochin International Airport Ltd that it will run a cargo service between Kochi and Dubai. However, the date and schedule of the flights, which will operate on a need-based non-scheduled basis, have not been announced.

The majority of Kochi's exports are fruits and vegetables. Only a little amount of cargo could be transported on passenger aircraft.

Tata Sons and AirAsia Investment Limited have partnered to form AirAsia India. It began operations in June 2014, and by December 2018, it had earned the right to operate on international routes. However, concerns about its effective oversight slowed the permission process for operating in other countries.

The Tata Group owns a whopping 83.6 percent of the airline. The Group has begun the process of acquiring Malaysian Air Asia Berhad's 16.4 percent stake in the company.
