Ajay Singh wins third medal for India in Commonwealth Weightlifting Championship

India has won three golds in its account at the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships. Ajay Singh won the men's 81kg weight class title on Sunday to clinch the third gold for India in the championship. Ajay lifted a total of 322 kg and has set a national record with a 147 kg try in the snatch. He has won gold and qualified directly for next year's Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

A total of three weightlifters have now made it to the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Jeremy Lalrinunga (67kg) and Achinta Sheuli (73kg) have already qualified for the games by winning gold medals in their events. According to reports, gold medalists from all weight categories of the championship are set to enter the 2022 Commonwealth Games directly while the rest of the weightlifters will make it to the Games based on their rankings.

Harjinder Kaur and Lalchanahimi have bagged silver and bronze medals respectively in the 71 kg weight category in the women's event. In the 59 kg weight category, Popi Hazarika had to settle for silver.
