New Delhi: The debate on EVM has resumed these days in the politics of Maharashtra following an order by Nana Patole, the then Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, while taking a different stance from his own party, has called EVM right. He has also lambasted the Congress party for demanding election with a ballot paper.

Ajit Pawar said, "When the Congress came to power in Rajasthan and Punjab, EVM precisely and where it lost the election by a lot of votes, then it is said that EVM was managed." Earlier NCP leader Ajit Pawar said on Wednesday that he can say based on his personal experience that the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) ensures correct voting and displays the correct number of votes. This statement of Ajit Pawar, nephew of NCP chief Sharad Pawar, seems different from his party's stance on EVMs.

Ajit Pawar jokingly said that EVM provides an opportunity for the defeated candidates to put the blame on the machine. Pawar, who represents the Baramati Assembly, said, "I have fought six to seven elections in which EVMs have been used. This machine ensures proper polling and displays the correct number."
