NEW DELHI: On Saturday, India's newest airline, Akasa Air, launched its inaugural flight from Chennai, the fifth location in its network, allowing it to operate twice daily flights between Chennai and Bangalore.

The airline will begin operating an additional daily flight on the Chennai-Mumbai route on September 15 and an additional daily flight on the Chennai-Bangalore route on September 26 as part of its ongoing expansion of its operations out of Chennai.

To improve connectivity throughout India, the airline has also introduced a new route between Chennai and Kochi, which will start operating on September 26.

This swift growth of cities, routes, and frequencies is consistent with the airline's plan to expand its network quickly but gradually throughout India.

commenting on the development, Praveen Iyer, co-founder and chief commercial officer of Akasa Air said -   "We have achieved yet another milestone today with the introduction of commercial flights from Chennai, which is the fifth city in our network. We will start operating twice-daily flights on this new route as of right now.

"Within the next five days, we will expand our network from Chennai by setting up a connection to Mumbai, India's financial hub, which will go live on September 15. With the launch of the Chennai-Kochi route on September 26, we will further improve our connection from Chennai. Iyer said, "Our clients will have many options to select from when booking their travel thanks to the enhanced capacities across these major priority cities backed by competitive pricing.

We are excited to expand our network in order to keep our promise to gradually include additional cities along with new sectors. The airline received two aircraft when it first began its commercial operations, and has since received a total of four aircraft.

To build a strong pan-Indian presence with an emphasis on key cities and metro to tier-2 and tier-3 route connectivity, it will continue to expand its fleet.

By the end of March 2023, Akasa Air will have a fleet of 18 aircraft, and over the following four years, the airline will add another 54 aircraft, bringing its total fleet to 72.
