NEW DELHI : Akasa Air, the airline promoted by billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, is set to launch its commercial operation with its debut flight on August 7 on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route.

According to the airline, a Boeing 737 Max aircraft would be used on the route for commercial operations. Two Boeing 737 Max aircraft will be used for flight operations. One aircraft has already been delivered by Boeing, and a second will do so later this month.

In a statement released on Friday, Akasa Air said that it had started selling tickets for 28 flights that will operate weekly on the routes of Mumbai to Ahmedabad beginning on August 7 and Bengaluru to Kochi beginning on August 13. 

The brand-new Boeing 737 Max aircraft would be used to launch operations, said Praveen Iyer, co-founder and chief commercial officer of Akasa Air. Iyer continued, "As we add two aircraft to our fleet each month in our first year, we will use a staged strategy to support our network growth ambitions, progressively linking more locations.

One of the most anticipated low-cost airlines to enter the aviation sector is Akasa Air. Earlier this month, the airline received an operator certificate from the DGCA, the governing body of civil aviation.
