Lucknow: Samajwadi Party national president and former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav has instructed his uncle Shivpal Yadav to strengthen his party. For some time now, the relationship between Shivpal Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav has been seen in the tiff. In such a situation, on May 5, Akhilesh Yadav advised Shivpal Yadav that, "Shivpal ji is the national president of his party, he should strengthen his party.''

Speaking to the press in Jhansi on Thursday, Akhilesh Yadav said, "Shivpal ji has his own party and he is its national president. The SP had given him the symbol only to contest the elections. When you give an election symbol to someone, you have to make that person a member (of the party).'' this statement comes at a time when there are speculations of Shivpal Yadav going with the BJP. there has also been rumour of his expulsion from the SP.

Shivpal, the national president of the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party (Lohia), had formed his own party in 2018 after a dispute with his nephew Akhilesh Yadav. In the 2022 UP assembly elections, Shivpal formed an alliance with Akhilesh's SP and contested on SP's election symbol from Jaswant Nagar constituency, also registered victory.
