Lucknow: The leader of the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav, is set to inaugurate his party's election drive in the upcoming Madhya Pradesh polls, commencing on Wednesday.
Akhilesh Yadav is slated to touch down in Khajuraho today via a private aircraft. From there, he will proceed to Rewa, where he will convene with party activists and address a public gathering in the Sirmaur constituency.
This sojourn spans two days, during which Akhilesh Yadav will convene with all party functionaries and district heads from the state in Rewa's Sirmaur. The Samajwadi Party has already unveiled its nominees for six seats in Madhya Pradesh, and Akhilesh Yadav will be actively canvassing on their behalf.
Additionally, Akhilesh Yadav will address a public assembly and engage in discussions with party members in Khajuraho, as stated in an official party communiqué.
"Akhilesh Yadav will embark on an election tour of Madhya Pradesh on September 27 and 28. He will conduct a public gathering in the Sirmaur legislative constituency of Rewa. Preparations have also been made for a workers' convention in Khajuraho. Its objective is to bolster the party's organizational presence prior to the announcement of assembly elections and to exert pressure for seat allocation within the India alliance," announced the Samajwadi Party in a statement on Tuesday.
Madhya Pradesh was once a stronghold for the Samajwadi Party, which previously secured seven assembly seats in the region. Sources indicate that Akhilesh Yadav is eager to attain national party status and seeks to participate in elections in numerous states in conjunction with the Congress party. However, there are currently no ongoing discussions with the Congress party regarding seat-sharing, according to insider sources.
The Samajwadi Party's announcement about Akhilesh Yadav's visit coincides with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) releasing its second roster of 39 candidates for the impending assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.
The state is gearing up for assembly elections later this year, with voters selecting representatives for 230 Assembly constituencies.
