New Delhi: In the wake of Tamil Nadu's AIADMK severing ties with the BJP-led NDA, the saffron party has expressed confidence in its newly forged alliance with the Janata Dal (Secular) ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The announcement of this alliance was made by BJP National President J P Nadda after a meeting with JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy.
Addressing the AIADMK-BJP split, Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated, "The BJP has treated its allies like family. Many parties like JD(S) are also joining the NDA. The NDA was strong in 2014 and 2019, forming the government at the Centre with a decisive majority both times. The PM Modi-led NDA will replicate this success in 2024." Union Minister Arjun Munda expressed confidence in the stability of the NDA alliance, noting that alliances may evolve, but the NDA remains intact.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla commented on the opposition coalition I.N.D.I.A, describing it as a coalition of convenience. "Their (INDIA) alliance is a forced coalition. There are INDIA alliance governments in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, but disputes persist, such as the ongoing Cauvery water dispute," he remarked. Meanwhile, Karnataka Minister and Congress leader Dinesh Gundu Rao predicted that the JD(S) would face challenges after aligning with the BJP.
"For them, the BJP has become a liability, which is why the AIADMK took its action. The JD(S) joining the BJP will likely spell the end for the JD(S) as a party. They may not realize the risk, but the BJP's association will likely lead to the collapse of the JD(S)," he stated.
