Akhilesh on Tandav dispute: 'Considering women as weak the BJP is lodging FIR...'

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former UP CM Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday accused the BJP of strangling freedom of expression and intimidating people into politics. Akhilesh on Wednesday tweeted and targeted the BJP after Amazon Prime Videos India Originals chief Aparna Purohit recorded his statement in Hazratganj Kotwali, Lucknow, in connection with the alleged derogatory portrayal of Hindu deities in the controversial web series 'Tandav.'

Akhilesh Yadav wrote in his tweet that, "The way the BJP government is strangling the freedom of expression today, it shows that the BJP which is doing politics of intimidating people" He also has a picture of Aparna Purohit. "Whether it is a matter of arrest on a tweet or any web series created in the name of entertainment, considering women as weak the BJP is lodging FIR against them," the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister charged.

In the case filed in the dispute related to the web series 'Tandav', Aparna Purohit recorded his statement in Hazratganj Kotwali, Lucknow on Tuesday. In January, a case was filed against Aparna Purohit at Hazratganj Kotwali, as well as series director Ali Abbas, producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, and writer Gaurav Solanki and others in January for the alleged derogatory portrayal of Hindu deities in the Tandav web series.
