Liquor worth Rs 70 lakh seized in 'dry' Bihar

Patna: Liquor worth Rs 70 lakh has been recovered in the liquor-free state of Bihar's Araria district. Seven people have been detained in this joint operation conducted by the Excise Ministry and the police. The officials gave this information on Sunday. Based on the information already received by the Ministry of Police and Excise, two trucks were stopped at the toll plaza located in the city police station area. Sub Divisional Police Officer of Araria Pushkar Kumar has said that 648 cartons of liquor have been seized from these trucks.

In this case, he said that the price of the recovered liquor has been estimated to be around 70 lakh rupees. 2 drivers and a cleaner on the truck have been detained. Apart from this, 4 other people have also been arrested from an SUV at the scene.

Police has also seized both trucks and SUVs. Police said that these trucks came from West Bengal and were about to leave for Muzaffarpur via Araria. The police is engaged in investigating the issue. Let us tell you that liquor was banned in Bihar in April 2016.
