Ahmedabad: Cyclone Tauktae has turned into a 'very severe cyclonic storm' and is heading towards the Gujarat coast. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has informed that it will cross the state coast between Porbandar and Mahuva on May 18. It will hit the coast of Gujarat in the evening. A heavy rain alert has been sounded in the state in view of the severe cyclonic storm 'Tauktae.'

According to media reports, NDRF DG SN Pradhan said more than 50 teams of NDRF are being deployed in Gujarat. We are working on evacuating people and creating awareness. In Tamil Nadu, some people have lost their lives due to wall collapse and electrocution. While 6 people have also died in Karnataka. Hurricane Tauktae will hit the coast of Gujarat this evening. A warning of heavy rain has been issued in the state due to severe cyclonic storm 'Tauktae'.

The Indian Coast Guard has warned Gujarat fishermen and other locals not to enter the sea and return to the nearest port in the wake of the severe cyclonic storm 'Tauktae'. In Karnataka, the impact of cyclone 'Tauktae' is beginning to show. In the last 24 hours, 6 districts have received heavy rainfall, affecting about 98 villages.
