New Delhi: The Supreme Court has ordered the release of all the six convicts imprisoned in the murder case of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. The top court has made it clear that if there is no other case against these convicts, then they should be released from jail. Let us tell you that Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a suicide attack in Tamil Nadu during an election rally on 21 May 1991. Seven people including Perarivalan were found guilty in this case. Perarivalan was sentenced to death by the TADA court and the apex court.

Let us tell you that, the Supreme Court has given a decision regarding the release of 6 convicts including Nalini and P Ravichandran, convicted of Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. Both Nalini and Ravichandran had spent more than 30 years in jail. Earlier on May 18, the top court had ordered the release of Perarivalan, another convict in the case. The rest of the convicts had also pleaded for release from the court citing the same order.

The apex court was hearing a petition filed by Nalini Sriharan and RP Ravichandran, who are serving life sentences in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, seeking an order passed in favour of Perarivalan, another convict in May 18 this year. There was a demand for premature release on the lines. The Court also took into account the conduct of the accused in prison and also observed that they have spent more than 30 years in jail. After this, the court ordered the release of all the convicts.
