Prayagraj: The Allahabad High Court has rejected the bail petition of BSP MP Atul Rai from Ghosi in the case of sexual exploitation of the student. This order has been passed by Justice Ramesh Sinha while dismissing the bail plea of BSP MP. A student living in Ballia had lodged an FIR against Atul Rai at Lanka Police Station, Varanasi on 1 May 2019.

The student has stated in her complaint that in the year 2015 she contested the student union election, during which she came in contact with Atul Rai. In the FIR, the student has alleged that on March 7, 2018, Atul Rai called her in his Varanasi flat and sexually abused her. Along with this, The accused also made a video of it. Rai then raped her, for which the police registered an FIR.

Atul Rai's counsel argued that his client was being implicated for political reasons as he was going to contest the Lok Sabha elections against the BJP. However, after hearing the arguments of the lawyers of both parties, the court rejected the bail petition. Opposing the bail plea on behalf of the victim, the counsel for the plaintiff said that Atul had criminal history in many cases and that he could influence the investigation if he is out on bail.
