On October 28, Amazon refused to appear before the Joint Committee on Parliament on the Data Protection Bill. BJP MP and panel head Meenakshi Lekhi said, Amazon's refusal to appear before the Parliamentary Committee is a breach of privilege. Meenakshi Lekhi said, "The committee is unanimous to take action against Amazon for refusing to appear on the Data Protection Bill."

The e-commerce company, Amazon, has refused to appear before the Joint Committee of Parliament on the Data Security Bill, which has been termed as a breach of privilege by BJP MP and Committee President Meenakshi Lekhi. The committee asked the representatives of Amazon to appear on October 28. Lekhi said on Friday, "The committee has a unanimous opinion that the government can be suggested for punitive action against the e-commerce company".

She said, "Amazon has refused to appear before the committee on October 28 and if there is no presence from the e-commerce company, it would be a breach of privilege." However, Facebook's public policy chief Ankhi Das appeared before the committee on the issue of data security on Friday. Sources said the committee members asked a variety of questions from representatives of Facebook India. During the meeting, a member said that the social media company should not be allowed to tamper with the data of its users for the commercial benefit of its advertisers. The committee has summoned the officials of microblogging site Twitter on 28 October and representatives of Google and Paytm on 29 October.
