On Saturday night, Batukama was celebrated in the state amidst the fears of a flower festival, Covid-19. The nine-day Festival of Dasara Navarathri began on October 16 and ended on Saturday as 'Sadula Batukamma'. Wearing face mask, women in their traditional clothes gathered in different models and sizes with batuks in public places and participated in the festival.
While forming a circle around Batukam, women agreed and clapped and sang songs and walked around Batukamma. They sang songs to praise Gowri Devi before drowning at nearby lakes. Women, especially girls, participated in the festival, and Kukatpalli, Secunderabad, Malkajgiri, Sanatnagar and other areas came alive.
As all the lakes and tanks are filled with constant rains, the police coordinated with municipal authorities and made necessary arrangements for women to drown the Batuka without any problem. The district administration has appointed volunteers in Necklace Road, Sanjeevayya Park, Boats Club in Upper Tank Bund, Safilguda, Kapra, Saroor Nagar and other lakes to help women drown the Batukam easily.
